This minimalist-inspired piece is based on the idea of a gradual descent into the subconscious mind. The music begins with a constant heartbeat in the bass drum (which will continue as an unaltered ostinato throughout the piece), and grows into a repeating cycle, with new instruments and patterns adding in at each step, creating complex hemiolas. At the center of the piece is an unpitched canon, which grows into the one unison rhythm of the piece before continuing like a palindrome, restating the music in reverse until all of the instruments have returned to silence except the heartbeat of the bass drum.
