Scherzo for Oboe and Piano

PDF Preview

This is a small piece for oboe and piano that has its origins in some very early sketches from before I began seriously studying composition. Looking through some sketchbooks from that time, I found a melodic idea with a lop-sided lilt, almost like a waltz written for some kind of creature with an odd number of legs. This provided the basis for the Scherzo. A serene and almost unmetered middle section provides a more restful feel, but before long the asymmetrical dance rhythm begins again.
